Feature Friday: Be Social Centric

Feature-Friday-Feature-Image.png

Lindsay and Dakota are the super boss babes behind the live media consulting company, Be Social Centric. I first met Dakota at a media event she was working. I was attending as a blogger and we bonded over churrasco and our mutual love of bourbon. Later at a Social Media Breakfast, I met Lindsay. And I've been following what these lovely ladies have been doing. So here's just a little bit more of their story.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your work. Where are you from? What do you do?

Lindsay and Dakota were both born here in Calgary and are two of the very few home-grown Calgarians that have lived here most of their lives.

With backgrounds in digital marketing and traditional public relations, we’ve both worked with local and big name clients and have a love for the fast-paced and wild side of agency life, which was one of the reasons we decided to create a business of our own!

Together, we are Social Centric Inc., a local live media consulting company that takes big (and small) ideas and helps both local and national brands build and garner their online presence by supporting, growing and fostering their message through key social channels and brand immersion tactics.

What inspires you to do what you do? How did you start doing this work?

Throughout our careers, we noticed a gap in the way social media was being approached.  From not having the time or not completely understanding what social media marketing could do for them, we saw amazing brands consistently miss the mark on dispensing really great content that would leverage their marketing and public relations efforts.

After having multiple conversations on the ever-changing media landscape and seeing so many wonderful businesses pop up all over Calgary, we decided that our ultimate dream job would be to help as many local, national and even international brands get the recognition they deserve by using a social centric strategy that is focused on community cultivation.

What inspires you most about your community (city, group of friends, etc.)?

The thing about Calgary and in particular, the social media, communications and PR community, is that if you put in the time to contact someone, they will put in the time to sit down with you for something as simple as a conversation or even something as big as a collaboration.

The fact that so much of our network is willing to collaborate rat

her than compete, is inspiring, uplifting – and smart.  On a down day, a good Social Media Breakfast or even a cup of Rosso with an inspiring new entrepreneur is enough to get us going again.

If you could give anyone who is starting out in your field (business, non-profit, etc.) one piece of advice, what would it be?

Help others as often as you can and always been willing to have a conversation, you never know what  might blossom out of a five minute commitment.

Tell me three fun facts about yourself or your organization.

  1. We are Kate Spade obsessed.
  2. We never turn down the chance to go on an adventure, business related or otherwise.
  3. We are extremely passionate about tough #bossybabes out to make a name for themselves and naturally fell into helping the female community by working with a local domestic violence prevention collective as well as with the incredible She Said event series – be sure to check them out @shesaidyyc.
