Feature Friday: United Way Calgary Gen Next ROUGE

Feature-Friday-Feature-Image.png

If there were any decade I could live, it would be the 1920's. From flapper dresses to silent films, I have always been fascinated with the culture and flair of the Roaring Twenties. I have probably watched every version of The Great Gatsby out there a dozen times, each! I am so excited to feature this fun event hosted by United Way of Calgary's Gen Next 2nd Annual Fundraiser. On October 15, Calgarians of all walks of life will descend upon The Bank and Baron for the chicest, sexiest soiree of the year, ROUGE. This Great Gatsby themed party is all about creating a better city for all Calgarians and having a roaring time doing it.

Why Is This Event Important?

United Way of Calgary and Area is an organization in Calgary that works tirelessly to forge partnerships, fund programs and fuel communities. Their vision is to see a great city for all, and they do what they can to make sure this happens. Here's just a snapshot of what they do:

  • Enough For All is a poverty reduction strategy run in conjunction with the City of Calgary. Because 1 in 10 Calgarians lives at or below the poverty line, this strategy will help build communities where no one is deprived of the means and resources to achieve self-sufficiency.
  • All in For Youth is a program focused on helping kids complete school . Every year, nearly 3000 Calgarian students don't complete school on time. This impacts the social and economic success of Calgary. This program supports youth and removes some of the barriers students face to reach their full potential.
  • 211 Calgary is an information and referral service set up to help those who don't know who to call.
  • Gen Next is a powerful program designed to empower Calgary's millennials to lead change and help build strong communities.

United Way is all about driving change through community because when we have strong communities, we have a strong city.
